Frequently Asked Questions
Question: My child isn’t a particularly strong swimmer. Can they still join your group? Answer: If your child has had limited exposure to swimming, fear not. We’ll take care of teaching them to swim. In fact, we’ll make learning to swim enjoyable. Our beginner programs assume no prior formal swimming training and follow the recognized Star System.
Question: Synchronized swimming seems like a big commitment.
Answer: Synchro (now called artistic swimming) is the ultimate team sport. Each member plays an important role on the team and so it is important that the swimmer and parent commit to the entire training and competition schedules. This may seem daunting but the benefits far outweigh the negatives. The athletes gel as a team and learn to work together. Commitment, team work, time management are only a few skills they will learn.
Question: I’m not sure if my child will enjoy the sport. What if they want to quit?
Answer: We pride ourselves in providing a positive experience for all beginners. That being said, we understand that synchronized swimming may not be for everyone. If your child decides not to continue before Dec. 15th, we’ll gladly refund your January to May fees. If your child decides to not continue after Dec. 15th, all fees for the season are non-refundable.
Question: My child is a very strong swimmer. Do they need to start at the very beginning?
Answer: Not necessarily so. Depending on your child’s age and swimming skill level, they may be able to join a more advanced program during their first year. The coaches will assess your child’s skill and place them in the program that is best suited for their skill level.
Question: Where do I go to get a nose plug?
Answer: Most of the larger pools carry nose plugs as well as Swimco stores and Team Aquatics in Calgary. It’s best to always pack an extra couple of nose plugs to the pool just in case.
Question: What should I pack in my child's swim bag?
Answer: Check our handy guide (attachment) to help you get organized for your swimmer's first day at the pool.
